ENGEHAVEN KONCERT HALL

To design a space based on our encounters with sound + music, a connection was drawn to the architecture of monasteries. In this typology, movement is itself a place, an act of pause; time is materialized within space. The experience is not related to a visual concentration, but entirely dependent on movement, small changes measured by pattern. Much like music, the ear is surrounded completely and the mind wanders inside itself.

And maybe the best thing architecture can do [especially for music] is stay out of the way of the listener’s mind; to think not only about space but also about time and the “bothness” that links music and architecture.
